Cutlass-wielding land dispute results in injuries and arrest by police

A land dispute between 67-year-old Peter Edrick Benjamin of Savannah Paille and 74-year-old Cuthbert Benjamin ( not relatives) of Tan-Tan has resulted in the arrest of both men who each inflicted cutlass wounds on each other.

Edrick was charged with causing Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) to Cuthbert on August 1, 2023. He appeared before a Roseau Magistrate where the charge was read to him. It is an indictable matter hence he was not required to enter a plea since the matter will be tried at the High Court before a Judge and jury. Cuthbert had two of his fingers on his right hand severed because of the cutlass wounds.

Bail was granted in the sum of $25,000 with one surety.

The police also charged Cuthbert with simple wounding for that he on August 1, 2023, at Tan-Tan wound Peter Edrick Benjamin. He pleaded not guilty to the summary charge and was granted bail in the sum of $5,000.00. Both matters have been adjourned to December 4, 2023, at Portsmouth.
