Judge grants bail to man accused of murdering toddler despite objections from the State

Niam Alexander St.Rose who was charged with the murder of a 1-and-a-half-year-old baby girl was granted bail for $40 000. 00 with one surety.

Bail was granted on the 30th of October 2024 by Justice  Collin  Williams. He was charged with murder on the 21st January 2024. The bail was opposed by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) However, the Judge acceded to the request of defense counsel David Bruney and granted bail to the accused man.

Police in early January of this year had arrested Niam Alexander St. Rose of Everton Estate Loubiere for the murder of 18-month-old Yolana A’Marah Julie St. Jean of Fond Cole.

The death of the toddler sent “shock waves” throughout Dominica.

On January 22, 2024, St. Rose made his first court appearance where the charge was read to him and he was then remanded at the State’s Prison in Stock Farm.
