A Mahaut man has been remanded at the State’s Prison in Stock Farm after being charged with the murder of his brother.
Fabian John appeared before the St. Joseph Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.
According to the complaint of the police, it is alleged that between August 28, 2025, and August 31, 2025, 38-year-old Fabien John murdered his brother, 40-year-old Danniel Kelvin John, at Mahaut.
Reports are that on August 28, 2025, Danniel sustained a stab wound to his upper body and was admitted as a patient to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH), where he remained until his death on August 31, 2025.
Following police investigations, a charge of murder was preferred against Fabien John. He appeared before Chief Magistrate Candia Carrette-George, where the charge was read to him. Since murder is an indictable offence, the accused was not required to enter a plea, as the matter is expected to be tried at the High Court.
Due to the nature of the offence, the Magistrate was unable to consider a bail application, as bail for such matters can only be addressed at the High Court. The matter has been adjourned to November 27, 2025.
