Police make major drug bust and police Chief praises efforts of his officers in drug fight

Acting Police Chief Davidson Valerie has lauded the efforts of the police in its fight against illegal drug trafficking.

The efforts of the police he stated resulted in the seizure of 16,798 grams of cannabis and 696,360 grams of cocaine on April 12, 2024. The incident is said to have taken place in Castle Bruce and Marigot with 696.82 kilograms or 1,533 pounds of cocaine.

“The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force has been engaged in a series of operations that resulted in the seizure of a large quantity of illegal drugs and the arrest of four (4) individuals who are now being questioned about the seizures. He also gave details of the arrest of one man for the Castle Bruce drugs.

“On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, 696.82 kilograms or 1,533 pounds of cocaine, were seized in Cabana Marigot from a vessel named La-mere Fatal that was beached at Cabana Marigot after being pursued by the Dominica Coast Guard,” he said.

He stated that the occupants of the vessel fled leaving the contents (drugs) in the vessel behind. The cocaine was recovered and the vessel was all seized and is in police custody.

The estimated street value of the cocaine seized is EC$18,616,870.25.

Valerie stated that the seizure of the drugs signifies the determination, hard work, and committed efforts of the police to prevent drug traffickers from using Dominica to conduct their illegal trade.

“The police force will intensify its efforts at pursuing the traffickers to ensure that are denied any opportunity to traffic illegal drugs in Dominica and ensure they are caught and brought to justice. He also had high praises for the men and women of the Dominica Police Force.

“I want to thank the officers who have been involved for their hard work, effort, and commitment to duty, we are pleased with their efforts,” Valerie stated.
