Prison Riot under control says Prison Superintendent Jean-Jacques

Superintendent of Prisons in Dominica Kenrick Jean-Jacques has disclosed that the situation at the Dominica State Prison in Stock Farm has been brought under control.

Inmates at the Security Block of the State’s lone penal institution staged a protest earlier today at about 7 am disrupting the operations of the Dominica State Prison.

“We had an incident at the Prison today July 17, 2023, at about 7-7:30 am where inmates housed at the Maximum Security Block staged a protest that caused some damaged in the process,” Jean-Jacques stated.

He continued, “With the help of the police and fire department along with the Minister of National Security and the Ministry of National Security, the situation was brought under control rather quickly and everything is now back to normal.”

Jean-Jacques stated that there are “lots of rumours being posted on social media but he would like to ally the fears of the general public to dispel the rumours being circulated.”

At the last Jail delivery, earlier this year, it was disclosed that the Dominica State Prison has a prison population of just over 200.
