Six weeks jail for man who damages glass door of his dad

Chief Magistrate Candia Carette George has fined 28-year-old Royston Francis of Bellevue $200.00 for malicious damage to a glass door at the home of his father Roy Francis and sentenced him to six weeks in jail.

The court heard that Francis was behaving in an “unruly manner’ and after he was spoken to by his father he went out took a boom box and smashed it in the glass door resulting in the glass being broken. The police were called and responded but did not meet him. The following day they received another call from the father who stated that his son Royson was again behaving unruly and needed police assistance in the matter.

On arrival, he was arrested and told the police that his father had taken a “cutlass to hit him and so he reacted with the boom box.

After his guilty plea, he told the court in his mitigation that “my father is troublesome he took a cutlass after me.”

“It’s not my fault…my father is the issue so I tried to get away when he took the cutlass,” he said. Asked by the Magistrate why didn’t he walk away from the house he did not answer.

“You have been given several chances by the court because you are no stranger, you are a big man and, two big men cannot stay in the same house you need to get your own house,” she told him.

She said that his father (Roy Francis) needed to have peace in his house. “You need some time to cool out, reflect on your life and ask yourself a few questions so I am sentencing you to prison for six weeks and you are also fined $200.00 as a form of compensation to be paid by November 30, 2022,” she said.
