Tarish Pit man granted $50,000 bail on four customs charges

By Ronalda Luke

A Tarish Pit man residing in Mahaut has been granted bail for EC$50,000.00 following four charges preferred against him by Officers of the Customs and Excise Division.
During his appearance at the Magistrate’s Court on March 31, 2025, Jervon Henry was charged with two indictable offences and two summary offences.

The indictable charges allege that on February 25, 2025, Henry knowingly removed one Samsung Galaxy Note 20, valued at EC$500.00, and a 14-karat gold Mahia pendant, valued at EC$1,688.96, from Millennium Freights Aeropost Facility located at the corner of Long Lane and Hillsborough Street in Roseau. The alleged removal was done with intent to defraud the Customs and Excise Division of revenue amounting to EC$221.63 for the phone and EC$554.32 for the pendant.
As these are indictable offences, Henry was not required to enter a plea, and the matter is expected to be heard in the High Court.

However, he pleaded not guilty to the summary offences, which allege that on the same date, he removed the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and the Mahia pendant from the facility without the permission of a Customs officer.
The prosecution did not object to bail but requested proper surety and conditions. Attorney Ronald Charles, representing Henry, presented Claud Toussaint as the proposed surety. After an assessment, the court accepted Toussaint, and bail was granted in the sum of EC$50,000.00.
As part of his bail conditions, Henry was ordered to surrender his travel documents to the court on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, seek permission at least 72 hours in advance before leaving the state, live an honest and industrious life while on bail, and report to the Mahaut Police Station every Friday.
The presiding magistrate cautioned that any breach of these conditions would result in the revocation of bail. The matters were adjourned to August 1, August 14, September 2, and September 23, 2025, respectively.
