A Marigot man is now an inmate on remand at the Dominica State Prison (DSP) following a charge of murder preferred against him by the police.
Akeem Mitchell appeared before Magistrate Hansel Valerie, accused of unlawfully killing 40-year-old Donaldson Wallace of Woodford.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on December 27, 2025, at Hilltop in Marigot, where the accused allegedly inflicted a major chop wound to Wallace’s neck, resulting in his death.
During his court appearance, Mitchell was not required to enter a plea, as the charge is indictable and is expected to be tried at the High Court.
Since the Magistrate’s Court is unable to entertain a bail application for murder, the accused was remanded into custody at the Dominica State Prison.
Mitchell is scheduled to return to court on March 11, 2026, for the commencement of the Preliminary Inquiry.
Wallace’s death brought Dominica’s homicide count to 22 for the year 2025.
