RE: Statement on the Passing of Hon. Edward Registe
Roseau, Dominica- It is with deep sadness that the National Youth Council of Dominica joins our nation in mourning the loss of one of the pillars of our country’s democracy, the Honourable Edward Registe.
Registe, who was the parliamentary representative for the Grand Bay constituency as well as Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business and Diaspora Relations, also played an integral role in the formative days of the NYCD where he served as President and continued to be very instrumental in the council through the 1980s- 2000s. The council has also received information in light of Registe’s passing off his work as a founding member of the Caribbean Federation of Youth- what we know today as the Caribbean Regional Youth Council (CRYC).
The early President was one who always advocated for the amplification of the youth voice which leads us to remember his words at the NYCD’s 2011 General Assembly where he stated, “The NYC must be the voice of the voiceless youth. There are many who cannot, will not and are unable to express themselves and represent their own interests.”
On behalf of the Executive and General Assembly of the NYCD, we extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and constituents of the Grand Bay constituency during this time. May his soul rest in peace and may his legacy for youth advocacy live on!
