Statement from His Excellency Charles A Savarin, DAH
President of the Commonwealth of Dominica on the sad Occasion
of the Passing of the First Prime Minister of the Commonwealth Of Dominica
I was deeply saddened upon hearing the news of the passing on Tuesday, 6th July 2021, of former Prime Minister Honourable Patrick Roland John at the Dominica China Friendship (DCF) Hospital.
Honourable Patrick John held several ministerial posts and succeeded E.O. Leblanc as Premier in 1974. During his premiership, Dominica gained independence from the United Kingdom on 3rd November 1978 and he became the first Prime Minister of Dominica.
His contribution to Dominica’s political independence will never be forgotten. Patrick John also made a tremendous
contribution in the areas of industrial relations and sports development, particularly during his stint as President of the Dominica Football Association (DFA). It was under his leadership that the DFA became a FIFA affiliate.
The Government and people of the Commonwealth of Dominica join Mrs. Savarin and myself in conveying to the bereaved wife Desiree who is currently a patient at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital being treated for a leg injury; to his granddaughter Kordelle Jean-Jacques who is a staff member of the Office of the President; and to his children and extended family, our condolences on this very sad occasion. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
My wife Clara and myself, extend our very best wishes for the quick and full recovery of the bereaved wife.
