DOMLEC sends five member team to assist Jamaica in post Hurricane Melissa

Dominica’s Electricity Company Ltd (DOMLEC) now has a five-member team in Jamaica assisting in the recovery efforts post-Hurricane Melissa as part of CARILEC’s Caribbean Disaster Assistance Programme (CDAP).

According to a statement from DOMLEC, the team will be in Jamaica for one month.

The General Manager, Dwayne Cenac, explained that “multiple utilities within the CARLEC organization have agreed to lend support to Jamaica”.

“We at DOMLEC are happy that the five (5) member team, comprising four (4) linemen and a supervisor, volunteered to assist, and that is something that we are very proud of at DOMLEC that we can provide that support to Jamaica,” Cenac said.

“It’s always a welcome sight to see linemen coming into your community following a disaster and being able to flip that switch and get things back to a level of normalcy, and so we are happy that we can be part of that restoration effort in Jamaica.”

DOMLEC said it wishes the team safe travels and prays for their safety as they join other regional utilities in bringing back power and restoring infrastructure on our sister island.

Following the destructive effects of Hurricane Melissa, Caribbean Community (CARICOM) nations have sent aid and committed financial resources to support Jamaica’s emergency response and rebuilding process.  According to a CARICOM release, regional agencies, including the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA), and the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), are spearheading the unified regional effort.
