PRESS RELEASE
The Electoral Reform Coalition (ERC) is disappointed that after almost two decades of demanding electoral reform in the Commonwealth of Dominica, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is proceeding to take to parliament the electoral reform bills on Monday 16th December 2024, without proper public notice and scrutiny.
In addition, the recommendations of the Electoral Commission were not made public to allow the nation to know whether or not the demands of the people were met.
The ERC therefore demands the following:
- The Electoral Commission makes its recommendations to the government public immediately.
- The government of Dominica makes the legislation that is being presented to parliament more accessible to the general public.
Considering the above the ERC - Encourages constituents to persuade their parliamentary representatives to support the electoral reform process for free and fair elections.
- Invites the public to a virtual rally on Saturday 14th December at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the volatile situation.
- Strongly urges citizens to make their presence felt outside of parliament on Monday 16th December to register their concern for genuine electoral reform which will provide for free and fair elections.
The public sector, private sector, civil society organizations, and citizens at home and abroad are encouraged to display their support for the cause of electoral reform.
The ERC is therefore appealing to all to raise their voices in this eleventh hour to demand that the government allows “We The People” of the Commonwealth of Dominica our right to genuine electoral reform which should lead to Free and Fair Elections.
