DOMLEC PRESS STATEMENT
DOMLEC takes this opportunity to inform our valued customers that the Geothermal Project is now in an advanced stage of commissioning.
To date, we have tested and energised key sections of the new 33kV transmission system. This includes critical equipment at Fond Colé and Laudat, as well as the 33kV underground transmission line interconnecting both sites.
The geothermal generators were successfully started and loaded at the end of the first week in March using an existing portion of DOMLEC’s network.
From today, geothermal power will be exported via the new transmission system. This does not mean that power will be exported from the Plant 24 hours each day. As the commissioning process continues, the geothermal generators may be turned off or adjusted. As the project team continues testing and commissioning the newly installed equipment, customers are advised that unplanned outages may occur over the next few days as part of this process.
We understand the inconvenience that outages may cause and sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this critical phase. These activities are necessary to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient integration of geothermal energy into our national grid.
This project represents a major step forward for Dominica’s energy future—strengthening energy security, increasing the use of renewable energy, and reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels and the accompanying volatility of fuel prices.
DOMLEC remains committed to keeping you informed and thanks you for your continued support as we deliver a more sustainable and resilient energy system for all
