Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has announced plans for the Government to undertake a further review of the country’s minimum wage.

Speaking during an interview on DBS Radio’s Talking Point on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Prime Minister Skerrit said his Government is also considering a reduction in corporate taxes.

“Our revenues are doing much better in this financial year so far than they did in the previous financial year, which is a sign that money is being spent in the economy.

“We have seen an increase in corporate tax in Dominica and this is why we are looking at 2025 to address the corporate tax and reducing it from what it is now at 25 percent so that we can keep more money in the private sector’s hand and hope they can invest more so we can increase the tax base of the country,” Prime Minister Skerrit said.

The last adjustment to Dominica’s minimum wage was implemented in September 2021.

Prime Minister Skerrit said the Government, in 2025, will look at a “further review of the minimum wage to allow persons who are reliant on the minimum wage payment schedule to be given a better pay so that they will be in a better position to withstand the increase in the price of goods and services in Dominica.”

In the 2024/25 Budget Address, the Government of Dominica announced the establishment of a Public-Private Sector Committee tasked with examining economic and social issues and providing policy recommendations on the minimum wage rate.
