Dominica bestows country’s highest award of honour on India’s PM Modi

Dominica has given India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi the highest honor award. In speaking about the award, Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that this accolade is “more than a symbol” but a tribute to “his enduring legacy and commitment to humanity and his indelible mark that he has left on the nations including Dominica which are far beyond his shores.”

According to Skerrit, in 2021 during the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Prime Minister’s “generous contribution of seventy thousand AstraZeneca vaccines became a lifeline for Dominica.”

“This act transcended a donation and was a powerful reminder that true leadership knows no borders. It enabled us to help our people and also to extend aid to our Caribbean neighbours who were still awaiting relief. This singular act of solidarity echoed the global essence of partnership and south, south collaboration,” Skerrit said.

He describes Modi’s leadership not only as decisive action but as a visionary approach that inspires the world. India he stated strives for health care, capacity building, technology, and infrastructure are all testament to his belief that progress must be ‘inclusive.”
