Two years after taking up the post of Dominica’s Destination Marketing Manager, at Discover Dominica Authority (DDA), Kimberly King is leaving the post when her contract expires at the end of September 2023.
Tourism Minister Denise Charles speaking to DBS radio explained that the Ministry of Tourism and King have “mutually agreed to part ways.”
Meantime, speaking to Nature Isle News (NIN) King had this to say “For clarification, Kimberly King, current Destination Marketing Manager and Trinidadian by birth has opted not to renew her contract which expires on September 30, 2023.”
“Ms. King expresses her gratitude to her team and staff for their support through her 2-year tenure and is grateful for their efforts in the marketing of the destination and the many accolades and accomplishments achieved.”
“We will be advertising the post for Destination Marketing Manager, so people who are interested in this post can apply, It’s a very important role for our country and I want to encourage Dominicans who are qualified to apply,” she said.
“In order to sell the country, we need people who have a passion and who understand the country, the product that we have to offer, hence I am hoping that we will get a large response from especially Dominicans.”
She called on Dominicans who are nationals abroad with the requisite skills and qualifications or “anyone in the region who would like to help Dominica to advance its nature brand product” to apply.
“It’s a very important role since that person will be responsible for marketing the destination and also building trade and relationships to see travel professionals around the globe and work with the agents that represent us in different source markets,” Charles stated.
According to the Tourism Minister, the role is “critical” and as such she is hoping that they can get someone with the relevant expertise and qualifications. “We are thankful to Kimberly King for her services…she joined us during the COVID period and has done her best to represent the country and I wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” the Tourism Minister remarked.
So all you didn’t know a Trinidadian would not have the passion to market Dominica, as a tourist destination over her own country, Trinidad? Zor tro sot!
From the numbers and the recent press the destination has had, seems she did an outstanding job. Please give her her credit.
Nope. Seems she piggy-backed on the seeds that her predecessor planted.
