“I leave the office of President with no regrets” outgoing President of Dominica Charles Savarin

Outgoing President of Dominica His Excellency Charles A. Savarin, says he leaves the office of President of Dominica with “no regrets.”

His Excellency Savarin officially demits office after holding that post for ten years. The government has nominated Sylvannie Burton as its choice for President while the leader of the Opposition has nominated former United Workers Party (UWP) Senator Nurse Anete Sanford.

In an interview with State Radio DBS, His Excellency Savarin had this to say on the matter “My last day in office is October 1, 2023, so it means that come October 2, 2023, a new President of Dominica will be sworn in,” he said.

“Ten years as President of Dominica is a privilege and I believe that anybody called upon to serve in that office would be proud to make his/her contribution,”.

He continued, “I leave the office of President with “no regrets”. I leave being satisfied, that I have done my best, sometimes in trying circumstances, but generally, I believe that I have sort of made a contribution. All my life has been given to public service and being President of Dominica, I believe is the pinnacle of service to your country.”

Parliament will meet on September 27, 2023, to elect by secret ballot a new President of Dominica with the two nominees being Sylvannie Burton and Anete Sanford.
