Roseau, Dominica, December 18, 2023: The President of Dominica, Her Excellency Sylvanie Burton, DAH, resumed official duties on Friday, 15th December 2023 following a
two-day visit to the French Department of Guadeloupe, marking her first official overseas
engagement as President of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Her Excellency left the State on Wednesday, 13th December 2023 for Guadeloupe, upon an
invitation that was extended to her in her capacity as the first female President of Dominica
of Kalinago descent, by Dr. Pierre Sainte-Luce, a prominent businessman and President of
the Arawak Beach Resort, to serve as a special guest at the unveiling of a fresco located on the main wall of the four-star resort, which symbolizes the establishment of close and cordial relations between the Arawak Beach Resort and the Kalinago community of Guadeloupe and Dominica.
The Unveiling Ceremony took place at the Arawak Beach Resort on Thursday, 14th December 2023.
Kalinago Chief Lorenzo Sanford was also present at the said ceremony along with
representatives of the Kalina Gwada Association.
Whilst in Guadeloupe, Her Excellency had the opportunity to meet and hold discussions with senior government officials of Guadeloupe, various media personnel, cultural and medical professionals, entrepreneurs and the Kalina Gwada Association.
This visit to Guadeloupe will help to further strengthen the very friendly and fruitful relations which have long existed between Dominica and the neighbouring French territory of Guadeloupe, and also provides the opportunity to explore new and better means to improve and deepen bilateral cooperation of mutual benefit in areas such as arts and culture, health, trade, tourism and entrepreneurship.
Her Excellency was accompanied on her official overseas engagement by her spouse Gilbert; President’s Aide-de-Camp, Inspector Valda Powell and President’s Secretary, Miss Donille Blackmoore.
Retired Business Manager, Mrs. Nathalie Sampson, acted in the office of President during
the period of absence of Her Excellency President Sylvanie Burton.
