A veteran CID Police Officer Takes Charge of the Department, Promising Continued Results

The Police Officer appointed to head the Criminal Investigation Department – CID – says he is very familiar with the operation of that Department.

Matthew Cuffy is reportedly the island’s “best and most competent investigator”.

“It’s not really new to me since I’ve acted for almost three years in that post…I ended in July as the head of CID. I grew up in the CID, and, I know what is expected of the CID so is nothing new to me,” Cuffy has been explaining.

With changes continuing in the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) since the departure of Police Chief Daniel Carbon, Cuffy has been made the man in charge of the CID.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Cuffy has been promoted to act as Superintendent of police and replaces Davidson Valerie as the head of the CID.

He is optimistic that he will be able to continue to bring “results as usual” in terms of serious crimes.

His main focus is gun-related crime.

“We have an increase in gun-related crimes and this of concerns to me. I recently reported to the Chief (Daniel Carbon) on these matters before he left and he told me that, that is something we have to speak on.

So I am looking forward for the cooperation from my men/women as usual. I am one who can motivate them to do the work that is required from them and looking for the best with the grace of the Almighty Father,” Superintendent Cuffy promised.

  1. As far I am concerned, the positions should be reversed. Cuffy should be the DCP or ACP Crime and not a superintendent whereas Valarie should remain as the Head of CID.

Cuffy has performed in this position previously, therefore this is not a promotion. He would be more effective in the other mentioned positions to give directions to the CDPF to fight crime.

On the other hand, Valerie has not performed in either the rank of superintendent or as head of CID, therefore he did not get the promotion of DCP on merit. I believe this is a wrong move and as usual the CDPF and people of Dominica will not see any improvement in this promotion.
