Bath Estate takes the lead as championship race intensifies

The race to lift the Dominica Football Association (DFA) Premier Division title is interestingly poised with several clubs still in with a chance at claiming the coveted title.

With just two rounds of matches remaining, Happi Bath Estate FC has quietly taken the lead owing to their brilliant form in the second round of the competition. The former champions eclipsed the defending champions, Sagicor South East FC on the points table when they edged out East Central FC by one goal to nil on Sunday at the Almond Park in Dublanc. The lone goal which separated the clubs was scored by Anderson Lawrence on the stroke of half time. The win pushed Bath Estate FC to 32 points, one point, more than South East FC.

The defending champions did not help their cause as they went down to LA Enterprises Bombers FC by one goal to nil at the Benjamin Park in Portsmouth. Cobin Paul converted in the 72 minute of play.  With the defeat, the defending champions remain on 31 points.

In other Premier Division results last weekend, Promex Harlem United and Central Cooperative Credit Union LTD Dublanc FC played to love all draw on Saturday. Also playing to a stalemate were Belfast Estate Mahaut Soca Strikers FC and WE United FC. Both clubs played to a one-all draw on Saturday at Dublanc. Yhan Timothy scored for Soca Strikers FC while Glenson Scotland scored for WE United FC.

On Friday, Petro Caribe Pointe Michel FC won by default over Exodus FC, who turned up 53 minutes late for the fixture which was scheduled for 6 pm

Meanwhile, the points standings after 16 matches read, Happi Bath Estate FC on 32 points, followed by South East FC on 31 points. Harlem occupies the 3rd position with 28 points by virtue of a better goal difference than Dublanc FC, also on 28 points. Bombers FC sits in 5th place on 27 points and closely followed by WE United in the 6th position on 24 points. Pointe Michel FC is in the 7th position of 21 points while East Central has 19 points. Soca Strikers FC sits in the 9th spot on 14 points. Exodus FC has only one point and occupies the cellar position.

Exodus has already been relegated to the Division One League next season. The club which finishes in the 9th position will engage in a playoff with the club which finishes second in the Division One League to determine who gets the 10th and final spot in the Premier Division.
