Managing Director of A.C. Shillingford & Co Ltd Julius Timothy is now a patient at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) after he suffered what doctors say was “a massive heart attack.” Reports reaching Nature Isle News (NIN) indicates that the former politician was home recovering from an eye surgery in the company of friends who noticed that he was not doing well.
He was then rushed to the DCFH where he was admitted to the ICU. Doctors report that he is in “a critical but stable condition.”
In May of 2013, Timothy, then Dominica’s Health Minister had suffered a stroke and was later flown to Martinique by air ambulance for medical treatment.
Timothy is a former Deputy leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) and was also Finance Minister under the Edison James UWP Government from 1995-2000. He fell out with the party and joined the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in 2006 where he has served as a cabinet member. Nature Isle News (NIN) wishes Mr. Timothy a speedy recovery. His family is asking for prayers on his behalf.
Education:
He is a graduate of the St. Mary’s Academy where he was student of the year on two occasions, and was also the winner of the Inter Island Scholastic Debate in 1969 and a junior table tennis championship in the same year. He holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of the West Indies.
Work Experience:
Employed for seven years with Chartered Accountant and Auditing firm of Coopers & Lybrand; Assistant Manager of Coopers & Lybrand; Managing Director and major shareholder of AC Shillingford; Member several sports teams including Cavaliers, Swansea Domino Club, Spartans. Founding member of the Carnival Organising Committee; President of the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce; President of the Roseau Co-operative Credit Union; Chairman of the Dominica Stevedores Ltd; Chairman of the Dominica Agricultural Marketing Board;
Political Career:
After the elections in 1990 he was made a Senator in Dominica Parliament, and in 1995 became the Parliamentary Representative for the Roseau North constituency. He was appointed Minister of Finance, Industry and Planning in the new government formed by Prime Minister Edison James. He is 71 years old.

Wish him a speedy recovery. But what has his political career, education, and work experience has to do with his illness?

Correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to recall that he is also a former Chairman of the former National Commercial and Development Bank, now National Bank of Dominica (NBD).
