Carson Burton from the community of Bataca will know his fate on March 30, 2023, after he pleaded guilty to the charge of Indecent Assault of a 12-year-old girl between October 27 & 28, 2018.
He was also charged with having Unlawful sexual intercourse (USI) with a 12-year-old girl around the same date in 2018. He pleaded not guilty to that charge and was withdrawn by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The court has ordered a social inquiry report followed by written submissions from the State and defense lawyer Dawn Yearwood Stwart. In the meantime, Burton remains on bail pending his sentencing. The offense carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in jail.
