The court has denied bail to repeat offender Alvin Esprit who is facing three charges of burglary and one charge of handling.
Wayne Norde lawyer for Esprit was seeking to have the court grant bail to his client. However, Magistrate Michael Laduat stated that a man cannot “flaunt the orders of the court…re-offend and expect to be granted bail again.”
“The court has been begging you not to re-offend and although you were twice granted bail and told to keep the peace you did not listen,” Laduat stated.
He then stated that he is denying bail to Esprit based on section 6 (2) C of the bail Act which states that “where a person is accused or convicted of an offence that is punishable with imprisonment, the court may refuse an applicant for bail if in the exercise of its discretion (1) the court shall have regard to any relevant factor including the following (C) the defendant’s record in respect of the fulfillment of his obligations under previous grants of bail.”
