Former UWP Senator Dr. Thomson Fontaine arrested on arrival in Dominica

The police have executed a “Bench warrant” which was imposed by then Magistrate Asquith Riviere for the arrest of former United Workers Party (UWP) Senator Dr. Thomsan Fontaine.

In 2018, obstruction charges in the case against Lennox Linton, Joshua Francis Dr. Thomson Fontaine, Nicholas George of the United Workers Party (UWP), and the MP for Roseau Central, Joseph Isaac, have been adjourned sine die. However, the next hearing on charges of incitement against UWP leader Linton and UWP senator, Dr. Fontaine, was set for January 22, 2019.

Then sitting and presiding Magistrate Riviere acceded to the prosecution for a bench warrant for Dr. Fontaine who was not present at the two court hearings which were held so far.

Magistrate Riviere has since demitted office but the warrant has remained in force and Dr. Fontaine who arrived in Dominica on April 23, 2022, was arrested at the Douglas Charles airport and taken into custody.
