Juvenile charged with murder of Chinese/Dominican national granted bail by High Court

Gina Abraham Thomas and Wayne Norde lawyers for a juvenile charged with the murder of Chinese/Dominican national Zhopeng Ziang have been successful in obtaining bail at the High Court for him.

The police arrested and charged the 16-year-old boy from the community of Marigot for the murder and was brought to court on March 2, 2022, where the charge was read to him. He was accompanied by a Welfare Officer.

According to the facts of the case, between February 22 and 23 at Marigot, the Juvenile is said to have murdered Zhopeng Ziang contrary to law.

Justice Wynante Adrien-Roberts ordered that the accused juvenile be admitted to bail “by a Magistrate in the sum of $150,000.00 with two (2) sureties each satisfying the means and control test.”

He is to reside with his father in Marigot and also to report to the Marigot Police Station every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday between 6 am and 7 pm and also must surrender “all his travel documents to the Magistrate’s Court.”

He is forbidden from living the State without first obtaining permission from the court and shall refrain from interfering with witnesses in the matter. A breach of any of the conditions shall result in revocation of the bail.

Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sherma Dalrymple along with State Attorneys in the office of the DPP Daina Matthew and Marie-Louise Pierre-Louis appeared for the State in this matter.
