Dave Robinson of La-Plaine is now an inmate at the Stock Farm Prison after he received a3 year jail sentence for possession of a firearm without being the holder of a firearms license and 2 years for possession of ammunition without being the holder of a firearms ammunition license. The sentences are to run consecutively.
According to the facts, as read out in court, members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) were on duty on July 15, 2022, at a social event in Loubiere, and at about 12:15 am they received certain information.
Armed with the information, they went outside to a shed where they met the defendant sitting and after identifying themselves to him as police officers requested to conduct a search on his person since they suspected him of carrying something illegal. He attempted to get away but was held and subdued.
At that time one silver black .38 revolver fell from his person and when asked about it told the police “my gun that there, I have it to protect myself.”
The firearm was loaded with 5 live rounds of .38 ammunition. Asked by the police if he was a holder of firearms and or ammunition license he replied “no.” The serial number of the firearm was scratched out.
He was arrested and charged for being in possession of a firearm without being the holder of a firearms license and also without being the holder of a firearms ammunition license. He pleaded guilty to both charges and represented himself in court.
He told the court, that he grew up in Guadeloupe and always have his gun for his protection against his “enemies.”
