Man jailed for five months after he pleads guilty to bestiality

High Court Judge Justice Thomas Astaphan has sentenced a Cochrane man to (5) five months in jail after he pleaded guilty to the charge of “bestiality.”

Brief Facts

Bernard Bonny was the owner of five cows at the time of the incident including two mother cows and three calves in 2020.

On March 25, 2020, at approximately 7:10 am, Bonney, before leaving for work went to the Savannah in Cochrane near his home and moved two of his cows, a mother and a heifer calf to another part of the savannah. Thereafter he returned home after work at about 5 pm and heard the mother cow that he had moved that morning bawling, as a result, he ran straight to the savannah where the mother cow was but could not find the heifer. He then saw a fresh track which he followed and after reaching a slight slope he saw some movement and the head of an individual nearing close he was able to see the individual who he identified as Randolph Piper and he stated “I will pay you…. I will pay you.”

He noticed that he had his penis in his hand that was erect, he then tried to put his pants on. He also noticed that the heifer was tied to a tree and the back leg to another tree. He again stated, “I will pay you.”

He made a report to the police and on March 26, 2020, Dr. Lennox St. Aimee acting chief vet at the time came and examined the heifer.

His findings were as follows a generalized hemorrhagic lesion on the mucosa of the heifer’s calf vagina. The lesion he said could be caused by penetration of a blunt object like something smooth (finger or penis). He then advised that it would not be slaughtered for human consumption.

On July 17, 2020, he was arrested and admitted to having sex with the calf. On July 20, 2020, he was brought before the court where the charge was read to him. The court also ordered him to be admitted to the Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) for evaluation for two weeks and then subsequently remanded to prison.

On November 2, 2020, he was granted bail in the sum of $20,000 in his own recognizance. He was indicted on 28, April 2023 on a charge of “bestiality” and pleaded guilty. The court also ordered a social inquiry report before handing down its sentence.
