Pointe Michel resident Marvin Munro Toussaint who earlier this year pleaded guilty to the charge of deception has been fine $22,757 by high court Judge Bernie Stephenson.
Toussaint, on January 27, 2020, pleaded guilty to one count of deception as the Criminal session of the High court got on the way.
Reports are that in 2014, Toussaint defrauded Quentin Gregoire the sum of $17,857.00 which was given to him to purchase a vehicle for Gregoire but he never did.
He repeatedly denied any wrongdoing but when the charge was read to him, he pleaded guilty thus preventing a full trial.
Toussaint was given four months to pay compensation of the $17,857.00 to Gregoire in default he will go to jail for four months. He was fined an additional $4,900.00 to the court to be paid within six months; in default, he will spend 18 months in jail.
State attorney Sherma Dalrymple prosecuted on behalf of the State. Toussaint was represented by attorney Peter Alleyne.
This is ridiculously a too small of a jail sentence! He might as well go to jail instead of paying the sum?
