Four men Brad Alexander, Vanty Lestrade Alexander, Kendell Toussaint of Campbell, and Akim Jno Lewis of Mahaut who have been jointly charged for the murder of 58-year old David Aries Esprit of Campbell appeared before Magistrate Michael Laudat on March 21, 2022, where the charge was read to them.

According to the police, between February 25, 2022, and March 11, 2022, the men murdered David Aries Esprit.

They were not required to enter a plea since murder is an indictable offence and can only be tried at the High Court before a Judge and Jury.

Experienced lawyer Zena Moore Dyer is representing all the men while acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sherma Dalrymple is representing the State.

Dyer told the court that while she has not yet been “properly instructed” when the time comes she will make the necessary applications. She was informed by the court that the pathologist who performed the autopsy on the body of the deceased has indicated to the court that she will be departing the jurisdiction on April 16, 2022, and as a result, the prosecution will be taking her evidence in the matter before her departure.

But Dyer raised objections to that. She was also informed by the prosecution that she will be given the report of the pathologist beforehand and that the State will be seeking forensic analysis overseas.

Magistrate Laudat then informed the men that based on Section 6 of the Bail Act, bail was denied and that they were “free to go to the High Court to seek bail.”

The DPP also gave notice, that the State will be strongly opposing bail if and when an application is made at the High Court.

The matter has been adjourned to April 1, 2022, in court number one.
