NBD investigates allegations against employees

One of the leading banks in Dominica has said it is investigating accusations made in a voice recording against its employees which has been spreading on social media like a wildfire.
The National Bank of Dominica (NBD) noted it is aware of the recording and that the investigation is to determine the merits of the accusations.

Statement from National Bank of Dominica (NBD)

In the recording, which appeared to be directed to an employee of the bank, businessman, and car dealer, Peter Karam alleged that his customers told him that minutes after approaching NBD to negotiate a loan to buy a vehicle, they were getting calls from a rival dealer.
He questioned whether the rival dealership had infiltrated the bank’s loan department and alleged that officers were promised and offered “big commissions if they can redirect customers their way.”
Karam said such action could lead to what he described as a “heavy-duty class-action lawsuit.”
He said the loan officer should lose his or her job instantly and accused the rival car dealership of involving in “nasty, dirty, underhand dealings.”
“It is nothing less than promising your staff in loans to direct customers to them and promise them commissions,” he stated.
Karam pointed out that such actions are putting NBD into disrepute and promised that he was not going to let the matter rest.
In a statement, the NBD said it is taking the allegations seriously.
“As a commercial bank, we are a responsible corporate citizen guided by local legislation and well as both local and international banking standards,” it said. “We respect and value our customers, and remain committed to ensuring that integrity and customer confidentiality is maintained within our organization.”
