The prosecution led by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Sherma Dyrample has closed its case against murder accused Glentiste Baptiste of Wesley.
Baptiste is accused of killing his uncle Parmer Phillip Blesuget between December 21, 2018, and January 3, 2019. Cuban pathologist Dr. Idelmys Alarcon told the court that she conducted the autopsy on the body of Blesuget, aged 54 years at the time. It was done on January 10, 2019.
She told the court that after a family member and the police identified the body, she opened the corpse and examined the various organs, taking notes that she later used to type a post-mortem report. Among her findings were that the deceased had injuries to his head secondary to trauma in the head.
“He had a laceration 2x1cm to the right temple region; 1×6 cm laceration to the frontal region and the skull was visible; 214 cm laceration to the base of the head and a 6×2 cm laceration underneath the skin in the head,” she told the court. Under cross-examination from defense lawyer David Bruney she stated the skull was “not fractured.”
In his statement from the prisoner’s dock, the accused stated, “I told the Inspector is my Uncle that threaten me. He ran inside his house and told me he coming. I took a stone and I send it and it hit him on his side.”
The defense is expected to call one witness before closing its case.
