Two Dominicans sentenced to jail in St. Kitts & Nevis

WINN FM News in St. Kitts & Nevis is reporting that two nationals of the Commonwealth of Dominica who was arrested and charged have been charged for crimes related to the twenty-one Haitian nationals who were taken into custody after entering the Federation illegally last month have been sentenced to jail.

Reports are that on January 2, 2022, the carrying the Haitian nationals ran aground at Bath Village Nevis.

According to a release from St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, on February 01, 2022, 59-year-old Brian Etienne of the Commonwealth of Dominica was convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment for the offence of Illegal Entry and two years for Allowing Persons to Disembark Without the Consent of an Immigration Officer. 

Additionally, 57-year-old Wensley George of the Commonwealth of Dominica was convicted and sentenced for the same offences as Etienne and will serve the same prison sentence for each offence.

Both men will serve their sentences consecutively and were convicted and cautioned for the offence of Disembarking Without the Consent of an Immigration Officer.

The 21 Haitians were repatriated to Haiti on Monday (January 31, 2022).
