Dominica celebrates 42nd Independence celebrations

With the COVID-19 pandemic causing major havoc around the world, Dominica on November 3, 2020, celebrated its 42nd anniversary of political independence at the State House.

It was not the usual celebration that would usually have been held at the Windsor Park Stadium where hundreds would have attended and listened to the independence message of the Prime Minister and also view the military parade.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit spent most of his 36 minutes independence address dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic calling on nationals to observe the health protocols put in place.

He also said that his Dominica Labour Party (DLP) government had spent over 12 million dollars in the wake of the pandemic and had done “all that was necessary to safeguard all.”

Skerrit also showered praises on the frontline workers dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also used the opportunity to tell citizens that his government was “at an advanced stage in building the much talked about international airport.”

The construction of the airport he stated will commence “during the first quarter of 2021 and those whose land was used will have their names inscribed on a plack at the terminal of the airport.”
