Dominica in Venezuela for 2023 ALBA Games

Chef de Mission for the Dominica delegation at the 2023 ALBA Games Yehudi John is confident that Dominica will return home with some medals at the event. Over 100 athletes and officials departed state Monday for Venezuela as Dominica gets set to participate for the first time in the ALBA Games. 11 countries will be participating at the games which will bring over 3000 athletes together over the next 2 weeks.

The countries are Cuba, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Russia and the host country Venezuela. The games will feature a total of 35 sports disciplines and Dominica will be represented in 11 sporting disciplines.

The ALBA Games will consist of 35 events hosted by Venezuela between April 21 and 29. As many as 3,500 athletes representing 11 countries are expected to take part in the upcoming competition. Venezuela last hosted the ALBA Games in 2011.

The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) was established on December 14, 2004 at the initiative of then-President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez and the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
