The Dominica National Senior Women’s Football team ended their CONCACAF campaign on a losing note against the experienced Nicaraguan team in Nicaragua when they were trounced 10 nil by the home team.
The Nature Isle girls who last week defeated Turks & Caicos Islands (TCI) at the Windsor Park Stadium 8-1 had no answers to the un slot and much more superior Nicaraguan team who found the back of the net inside the second minute of play and from there on dominated proceedings scoring 5 goals and the end of the first interval.
On the resumption of the second half, Dominica made a few changes but that did not stop the home them as they netted five more goals to complete a 10 nil drubbing of the visitors.
Coach Albert Titre acknowledged the far superiority of the home team and said it was “a learning experience for his team.”
“We had an all-local team with no overseas players, I want to commend the ladies for the fight that they put up, remember they had not played football for nearly three years because of the COVID-19 pandemic so to really get to that level was indeed great and for that, I want to commend them,” he said.
Dominica ended the group in fourth place with three points and the TCI in the cellar position without a win. Trinidad & Tobago topped the group ahead of Guyana who needed to defeat them to move to the next round while Trinidad & Tobago only needed a draw.
Trinidad and Guyana played in Trinidad and Guyana ended the first half leading 1 nil but in the 47th minute of play Trinidad equalized via the penalty spot through Ashia James and then a goalkeeping error by the home team goalkeeper gave the visitors the lead again. However, Trinidad & Tobago got the all-important equalizer in the 89th minute through a substitute player and despite a last-ditch effort from the Jargur Ladies, the score remained at 2-2 sending Trinidad & Tobago to the next round ahead of Guyana.
