Dominica’s death as it relates to COVID-19 has now climbed to four. Two weeks ago Health Minister Dr. Irvin McIntyre, announced the first COVID-19 death, that of a 46-year-old female.
At a press briefing on the evening of August 27, 2021, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. David Johnson announced a fourth death. “Our second COVID death was a 70-year-old male with underlying conditions who was admitted to the COVID Isolation Unit on August 8th, 2021,” Dr. Johnson said. “This patient subsequently tested negative on PCR and was discharged for transfer to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital. However, the patient subsequently succumbed to the illness on August 26th, 2021.”
“The fourth COVID-19 death was a 74-year-old female with underlying conditions who was admitted to the COVID Isolation Unit on August 22nd, 2021, and passed away today,” Dr. Johnson revealed.
This week, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit revealed that two other persons had died as a result of the dreaded COVID-19 virus.
“I knew the other individual very well from Pointe Michel who passed away Sylvester Jno Baptiste a very jovial and loving man full of energy,” Prime Minister Skerrit said.
“I want to express to the family my profound and sincere condolences (to Carlisle, he was Carlisle’s dad) In fact, the night before he died I spoke to Carlisle on the phone about his dad and inquired of him about how he was doing. When we lose people like this it’s very sad and I can understand the pain and anguish of the family. I pray that the Lord will give them the courage and strength in this loss. I am there with them personally and as a government, we are there with them in this time of sorrow.”
Sylvester Jno Baptiste was aged 78 at the time of his death.
