Roman Catholic priest Monsignor Eustace Thomas has called on Dominicans to emulate the work ethics and habits of the late Mally Peltier who died at the age of 81.
Delivering the homily at his funeral mass at the church of the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Pointe Michel on August 18, 2020, where hundreds gathered to say farewell, Monsignor Thomas said that Mally was “a very faithful taxi driver and like all of us had his difficulties but did not forget church.”
“This man Mally Peltier was a hard worker; he did not know laziness and was interested in his children, his family, and country and always spoke very well about Dominica while taxing his passengers to and from the airport,” he said.
“Emulate Mally, come to church, pray and dedicate time to God…the Lord is asking us to examine ourselves and look at the obstacles in our lives which are preventing us from serving the Lord. The Lord is asking us to come back to him, listen to him. Some of only come to church when is funerals; we need to do better than that, pray for all of us. Do not let us be like prophets of doom, let go and let God work within our life.”
Monsignor Thomas called on the faithful to prepare their heart for death which is inevitable. “Just as Mally has gone to the great beyond, you too will die. You also have to bring to the foe the importance of work. There are a number of lazy people in the world, in the region in our country that spread all kinds of things.”
“I do not know how beautiful you are, or look, with your eye shadows and make-up, but one day you will die, will rot, so there is no need for arrogance and stubbornness, we all have to die, we all are people under the sun.”
A number of Cabinet ministers were present at the funeral mass in Pointe Michel. Mally’s body was laid to rest at the Catholic cemetery in Pointe Michel.
