Ensley L. Pierre Dominica’s former Chief of Police has died. Pierre served as Chief of Police in Dominica from July 4, 1984, until January 31, 1992.
Many regarded him as a strict disciplinarian and one who brought a level of stability in the police force during its turbulent years.
Attorney at law Geoffrey Letang a former police officer served under the watch of Ensley L. Pierre. “He was a disciplined Chief of Police,” Letang said.
“What I liked about him is that any police officer who was alleged to be involved in ill-discipline you were marched to his office on Monday and fined or reprimanded right away,” he said.
“Whenever we had parade he was also at the forefront and also gave commands and then hand over to Mr. Bernabe. He was very understanding. He would organize the beat patrol and if you failed to show up you would be fined $100.00 or be reprimanded,” Letang recalled.
Nicholas George a now-retired superintendent of police also served under the command of Ensley L. Pierre he also expressed sadness at hearing of the passing of Pierre.
“He was my instructor when I joined the police force in Morne Bruce. He shaped me and my life. He trained me well and having graduated from the training school I was under his watch. He led the force and led us well, I respected him highly. He was a strict disciplinarian and led the Commonwealth of Dominica Police force with honor,” George stated.
“He was my friend and a true friend. May his soul rest in peace!”
Ok. Twice the word ‘Disciplinary’ was used instead of Disciplinarian. Correct it ASAP!
