Special advisor to the Haitian community in Dominica Albert Eustache is calling on the Skerrit led administration to treat his Haitian nationals with respect.
Hundreds of Haitians who are in Dominica gathered at the Windsor Park Stadium for a special meeting to discuss the plight of their nationals.
Over the past weeks, Haitians whose work permits have expired are being targeted and arrested by the police even after the immigration department promised to renew their work permits.
“The government has its laws and we need to respect it. Haitians pay taxes in Dominica they worked hard after Hurricane Maria to clear Dominica, I have been living in Dominica for 18 years, I am a citizen and I love the country but it appears now that 95 percent of people no longer like we Haitians and it’s sad,” he stated.
He said all Haitians in Dominica ought not to be treated the same and is calling on the authorities to treat his Haitian people with “respect, pride, and as human beings.”
According to Eustache, Haitians are in Dominica to improve on their life and he believes that as CARICOM nationals they need to be respected.
“Mr. Prime Minister, I call on you to look at the plight of my Haitian brothers and sisters, treat us fairly we deserve better…Mrs. Skerrit, you are the parliamentary representative for Roseau Central where I vote, I need you to intervene on behalf of my Haitian brothers and sisters,” he stated in creole.
They vow to meet again to further discuss the matter and to get an audience with the Prime Minister and his National Security Minister.
