The police are warning the general public who are holders of illegal firearms and ammunition to stay away for such behaviour.
That call came from Head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Superintendent Belgrove Charles after a man who was arrested and charged for the offence pleaded guilty in court.
According to Superintendent Charles, during an operation on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, the police executed a search warrant at the home of Shermanny Graham of Castle Bruce who resided in Kings Hill.
He was arrested and charged for being in possession of illegal firearms and 12 rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a firearms and ammunitions licence.
Graham appeared before a Roseau Magistrate on Monday, March 21, 2022, where the charges were read to him, He pleaded guilty and was fined seven thousand five hundred dollars ($7,500.00) for illegal possession of a firearm. On the charge of illegal possession of ammunition, he was sentenced to one year jail suspended for five years.
Head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Superintendent Belgrove Charles is warning the public that the offence of “illegal possession of firearms and ammunition under the Firearms Act carries a penalty of (20,000.) twenty thousand dollars on summary conviction or a term of imprisonment of not more than fifteen (15) years or both fine and imprisonment.”
On indictment, the offence carries a term of imprisonment not exceeding ten (10) years.
