As the national team prepares for the FIFA Qatar 2020 World Cup, the Technical Department of the Dominica Football Association (DFA) has gone into preparation mode. In this regard, a total of 33 players have been invited to commence training for the qualifying stages of the competition.
The training will commence on Tuesday, 25th August, 2020.
The squad which was named has quite a few experienced and seasoned players in the likes of goalkeeper Glenson Prince, defender Euclid Bertrand, and striker Julian Wade. However, there are a number of notable omissions such as teenager Audel Laville, who made his debut for the national team in 2019. Laville scored the lone goal against St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the one goal to nil victory at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium in the Concacaf Nations Qualifying Competition.
Also out of the training squad is college student, Kassim Peltier and Shermia Dangleben who have featured in recent national units.
Goalkeeper, Ralieghson Pascal, after a few years in the wilderness, has also received the nod from the selectors and will join the training squad.
According to the Technical Department of the DFA and after a review of over 80 players, most possessed basic heart, hard work, and talent. However, additional qualities such as players’ potential to perform against top nations like Panama and their ability to work well with other senior players were taken into consideration.
Players’ lifestyle as well as their work ethics and feedback from club coaches also weighed in on the selection.
The players selected are, Glenson Prince, Donte Newtown, Erskim Williams, Eclid Bertrand, Malcolm Joseph, Ajaya Royer, Gylles Mitchel, Malian Phillip, Donan Jervier, Javid George, Sydney Lockhart, Anfernee Frederick, Chad Bertrand, Briel Thomas, Fitz Jolly, Kelrick Walters, Tristan Sandy, Julian Wade, Travist Joseph, Michael Gasper, Joslen Prince, Romario Burgins, Jamie Parillon, Daryl Longdon, Davorn Geroge, Raleighson Pascal, Kimani Thomas, Denzel Laudat, Jervanie Xavier, Nick Anthony, Marcellus Bonney, Anderson Lawrence, and Reon Cuffy.
The Technical Staff reads Rajesh Joseph Latchoo (head coach), Ellington Sabin (assistant coach), Enoch Lee (medics) Courtney Challenger (goalkeeper coach) Heinrich Anselm (Manager) and Reginald Darroux (equipment manager).
