Dominicans asked to be cautious

While the “all clear” has been given for Dominicans to go about their business today, they have been told to “be careful and tread cautiously.”

A weather system which moved quickly produced heavy rains, lightening and thunder last night and residents were asked to take the “necessary action to protect life and property.”

National Security Minister Rayburn Blackmoore, very early this morning took to the airwaves to announce that “Dominica has been spared”and that work will resume today as normal.

“While we have been spared and want to thank God, I want to urge citizens to be very cautious because of the amount of rain that we have had we may experience some flooding, falling rocks and or landslides,” he said.

Dominica, from 11 pm last night was placed on a “flood warning” until 6 am today with the potential of it being further extended.

The Met office has warned that more rain is expected during the day and persons living in “low lying areas, near ravines and rivers” were asked to take the necessary action.
