Further relaxations announced

In an effort to fully open the local economy, a number of business establishments will open their doors to serve the public from next week.

As was promised, Health Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre has announced the relaxation of some of the restrictions in light of the fact that the country has not seen any surge in confirmed cases as well as no evidence of community spread.

Addressing a press briefing on Thursday, 11th June 2020, Dr. McIntyre made the following announcements.

“We have decided to remove some of the restrictive measures that are in place. Curfew hours will be amended as follow, Monday to Sunday from 10 pm to 5 am. Businesses will be permitted to operate with usual working hours prior to COVID-19, subject to curfew hours.

“The following categories of businesses are now allowed to open fully, tour operators, hotels, guest houses, cinema, Lotto Blast, gaming shops, Ma Pau, gyms, libraries, and bars. However, daycare centers and schools will remain closed. Beaches and rivers can be accessed from Monday to Sunday, however, curfew hours must be adhered to,” he further stated.

Despite relaxing some of the restrictions, Dr. McIntyre is urging the general public to remain vigilant.

“I am pleading to you the public that though we have relaxed the curfew hours and have practically opened the local economy, this is a perfect opportunity to be responsible in our behavior. We are calling on all business owners and patrons to please adhere to all the guidelines and protocols which have been recommended in regard to public health,” he added.

On behalf of the Government and people of Dominica, the Health Minister thanked all the organizations who have assisted Dominica in its fight against the virus.

The island has recorded a total of 20 cases with 18 full recoveries. The two active cases are two cruise ship workers who were allowed to enter the country late last month.

The country’s borders have remained closed.
