Grade 6 students to get psychological help

Permanent Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Education, Chandler Hyacinth, has disclosed that students taking the Grade Six National Assessment (G6NA) will get the necessary psychological support ahead of the exams.

The G6NA which was originally carded for 28th and 29th May 2020 will now be written on 7th July 2020 by over 800 students.

According to PS Hyacinth, all efforts will be made to ensure that the students are comfortable leading up to the exams.

“We know that there will be some anxiety among the students. However, psychological preparation will be done with the students to at least alleviate their fears and reduce their anxiety. With exams there is always that anxiety among students,” she noted.

As the exam date draws closer, Hyacinth has given the assurance that all systems are in place.

“Students have been brought in to prepare themselves. As far as I know, schools are organizing mock exams. Things are on course for the exams. It is a shorter exams and it will be done in one day since the structure is different. All protocols will be followed. We would need the cooperation of the parents so that the students can do well,” she added.

Due to the COVID -19 pandemic, students will only be required to write three papers as compared to the four papers in previous years. The students will write one language arts paper comprising 40 questions as well as an essay. A general paper with 50 questions will be written. The other paper that pupils will write is the mathematics paper which will have a total of 40 questions.

The exams will be held from 8 am to 1 pm at various centers around the island.
