Prominent taxi driver Mally Peltier dies

Well-known Dominican businessman and taxi driver Mally Peltier has died at the age of 81. He had been homesick now for a few years.

In 2008, he was awarded Dominica’s Services Medal of Honour bestowed on him by President of Dominica Nicholas.J. O Liverpool for over 40 years’ service. He was the father of 11 children and was married to Daphne Peltier.

In an interview with the Sun Newspaper in 2014, Peltier explained that he learned how to drive when he was employed at Astaphan; he stayed at the company for about a year and left to join his father’s business when the opportunity arose. His father owned a truck and he was left short-staffed when his employee left the island for greener pastures. The all-purpose truck carried mainly passengers, agricultural produce, sand, and stones.

Peltier was the proprietor of Mally’s Taxi, a long-running, reliable taxi service, popular for airport services with the office located on Cork Street Roseau, with two of his sons, Marvin and Derwin.
