No Creole Fest for 2020

Health Minister Dr. Irvin McIntyre has disclosed that his ministry will not endorse any plans for the staging of the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF) 2020 in Dominica.

The WCMF is usually staged during the ending of October with three nights of music from banks and groups from Dominica, the region, and as far as Africa.

This year, the government is yet to give a final decision as to the staging of the event but given the outbreak of COVID-19, that event seems impossible.

“At this time, with the data available and with the international situation regarding the pandemic, it is not on our cards and that’s purely based on the science available and the statistic we have on COVID-19 internationally, our ministry will not be in favour of a mass gathering, no way,” Dr. McIntyre stated.

Although he stated that no decision has yet been taken on that matter he said holding the WCMF was impossible.

“The decision has not yet been taken, but we are in the process and discussing it but most likely, the decision will not be in favour of it and I don’t see a decision coming to encourage the mass gathering of such magnitude,” he said.
