Roosevelt Skerrit sworn in for a record six times as Dominica’s Prime Minister

Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) Roosevelt Skerrit created history on December 7, 2022, when he was sworn in by the President of Dominica His Excellency Charles Savarin for a record six (6) times as Dominica’s Prime Minister. In the process, he also became Dominica’s longest-serving Prime Minister.

The ceremony took place at the conference room of the State House and was attended by the mother and aunty of the Prime Minister, his wife ( Parliamentary representative for Roseau Central along with their two children) members of the diplomatic corps, Labourites, former Cabinet members, winning DLP and losing DLP candidates, media and other members of society.

Meantime, Prime Minister Skerrit said that he will address the Nation on December 12, 2022, to reveal the composition of his Cabinet that will be sworn in on December 13, 2022, at the State’s House. Among his plans in this new term is “to forge ahead with the construction of the International Airport, finalizing arrangements for the building of a passenger and cargo terminal.”

“We are committed to maintaining and expanding benefits to the elderly and providing new opportunities for education and training for our young people. Government must be responsible and more responsive more efficient and business-like with the public,” he said.

He bemoaned the length of time it takes for the approval of government permits on matters saying it takes “way too long.” “We are employed by the people and must behave like the people so, this term shall be laser-focused on achievable because time is of the essence,” the Prime Minister stated.
