Salisbury have a Village Council after 59 years

After 59 years without having a Village Council, the people of Salisbury now have a Village Council that is expected to take care of the needs of the community.

On March 9, 2022, persons from that community went to the polls to elect five individuals to serve on the council, and speaking to Nature Isle News (NIN), Local Government Commissioner Glenroy Toussaint said he was “impressed” with the voter turnout.

“The people from the community came out to exercise their rights as they choose individuals to be on the Village Council. I was very impressed with the turn and also how the people went about doing their business,” Toussaint said.

He labeled the turnout “good” and states that he is looking forward to working with the Salisbury Village Council as they seek to work towards a “common goal and the people of the community.”

The preliminary results released show that Russel Felix topped the poll with 313 votes followed by Selma Louis 311, Ned Toussaint 276, Sylvia Vidal 251, and Vincent Langlais 233.

The government will nominate 3 persons that will complete the make-up of the council and which they will between them elect a chairperson.
