Theophille rolled back the years with half century on come

Lakeiya Joseph Red Rock Bramblers and Nagico Northern Stars recorded impressive victories last weekend in the 2023 Dominica Cricket Association NCCU Premiere Division League. 

At the Benjamin Park in Portsmouth, Red Rock Bramblers came from behind to defeat Go Sports Tremors by four wickets despite a fine all round performance by former Windward Island Volcanoes captain, Tyron Theophille. 

Tremors batted first after being invited to do so and scored 157 all out. Tyron Theophille, who made a return to competitive cricket after more than two years because of a near fatal accident, was the leading scorer with 57 runs. Tyrel Toussaint added 23 and Kirsten Casimir chipped in with 17, 

Oswald George with four for 57 was the best bowler for Bramblers. 

At their turn at the crease, Bramblers was bowled out for 115. John Fabien top scored with 33 runs and Clem Leblanc added 30. John Matthew with four for 20 took the bulk of the wickets for Bramblers. Tyron Theophille and Shaheim Caesar finished with two for 41 and two for six respectively. 

With a lead of 42 on first innings and batting a second time, Tremors was bowled out for 133. Tyron Theophille led the way with 36 and Shaheim Caesar hit an unbeaten 28. 

Jamie James bagged five for 42 and Oswald George supported with four for 57. 

Set a victory target of 176, Bramblers finished on 176 for six after a fine century from Sherlon George who scored 101.  Jamie James aided the total with 25. 

Bowling for Tremors, Tyron Theophille took five for 44. Final scores in the match, Tremors 157 and 133 all out, Bramblers 115 and 176 for six. 

Over at the Botanic Gardens, Northern Stars made light work of St. Paul’s Cricket Academy, winning the match by a massive 165 runs. Northern stars won the toss and batted first and posted 122 all out. Larenz Wiltshire top scored with 52 and Kevin James added 30. Sherwin Labassiere took four for 31 and Louis Louisy took three for 10. 

At their turn at the crease, St. Paul’s Cricket Academy was bowled out for 52. Only Casimir Benjamin with 42 showed resistance as Vincent Lewis destroyed the batting with six for 11. 

Batting a second time, Northern Stars, behind a century from Kevin James reached 238. James hit 116 and Larenz Wiltshire scored 46. Sherwin Labassiere was again amongst the wicket as he finished with seven for 95. 

Chasing 309 for victory, St. Paul’s Cricket Academy was bowled out for 143. Cody Peltier scored 34 and Micah Joseph hit 32. Casimir Benjamin chipped in with 20. Curvel Marie took three for 41 and J. Benjamin finished with three for 5, bowling for Northern Stars. 

The final scores in the match are Northern Stars 122 and 238 all, St. Paul’s Cricket Academy, 52 and 143.
