Three vie for NYCD’s post of President

Roseau, Dominica –Youth leaders vying to join the National Youth Council, the recognized voice of young people from Dominica, have announced their election manifestos. A new chair and leadership team for the Youth Council, which advocates on behalf of young
people aged under 35 on issues such as employment, human rights, and climate change, will be elected at the Cabrits National Park on 18th March at the General Assembly.
With campaigning now underway, outgoing Youth Council President, Ashma McDougall urged young people around Dominica to get involved and engage with candidates on their policy platforms. “Now is your chance to learn more about the young men and women who are vying to be the voice of the young people in Dominica,” said Ms. McDougall.
Three candidates will vie for the Presidency of the NYCD, including the President of the East District Youth Council, Mr. Kevin Scott, 1st Vice President of the NYCD and JCI Dominica, Mr. Phael Lander, and Chairman of the St. Joseph Village Council, Mr. Richard Austrie.
Eighteen other nominees will vie for the seven (7) other elected positions of the NYCD’s Executive and that will be published on the NYCD’s social media pages.
Weighing in on the electoral campaign McDougall cited “I strongly encourage everyone to take an interest in these elections, as these are the youth leaders who work in partnership with governments and all stakeholders to advance the youth contribution to development
and democracy in Dominica and beyond. The candidates who are elected to the NYCD’s executive will become local, regional, and global champions for the generation under-35, putting forward their interests and aspirations. That’s why this election is so important and
why young people should pay attention and put forward their own policy priorities for candidates.”
The Electoral Committee is quite pleased with the portfolio and list of candidates who have been nominated across the other seven (7) elected positions. The list of candidates, along with their biographies can be found on the National Youth Council’s Facebook page: National Youth Council of Dominica | Facebook
